 MEDICATION.


Medication, physiotherapy, inhalers and nebulisers. Coping with the relentelss demands that CF forces upon you is daunting. It relies heavily upon self discipline and time management. For anyone dealing with CF, striking the correct balance regarding your day to day routine is crucial.

Creon 25,000 · 30-45 Daily (Average)
Creon aid the digestion of food in conditions whereby the production of digestive enzymes by the pancreas is reduced or absent. Creon are swallowed whole with all food, as that allows the enzymes to mix with the food, and let the Creon work their magic. 

Azithromycin · One tablet Daily
Azithromycin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by killing the bacteria that cause the infection.

Omeprazole · One tablet Daily
This tablet is taken in order to reduce the amount of acid that is produced in the stomach, whilst also relieving any pain that may be caused. Personally, I have found this tablet to be the most effective in relieving any stomach pains that I have endured. It has proven to be a worthwhile addition to my regime.

Vitamin A+D · Two tablets Daily
Vitamin A Helps to strengthen immunity against infections. Vitamin D regulates the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. These substances are needed to keep bones and teeth healthy. 

Tocopherol  · One tablet Daily
Otherwise known as Vitamin E, this tablet helps to fight  toxins as it is a powerful antioxidant.

Calcichew D3 · Two caplets each day
Consumed in order to increase vitamin D and calcium in the body thus helping to strengthen the bones.

Ibuprofen · When required
Not strictly a prescribed medication but useful when feeling below par. Ibuprofen works as a painkiller by affecting chemicals in the body called prostaglandins.

Sodium Chloride · Two tablets three times a day
Used to replace the sodium lost from the body and thereby return sodium chloride levels to normal. Taken when exposed to sunlight for longer periods of time.

Colomycin is a nebulised antibiotic that is used for the treatment of chest infections with certain bacterial organisms. Adult CF Patients require Colomycin at 2 million units nebulised twice daily for three months. For patients aged 2-17years Colomycin is issued at 1-2 million units nebulised twice daily for three months.

COLOMYCIN


Saline is admistinstered through the use eFlow ® device that utilises newly developed technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the medication that is being provided. Unfortunately inhaling saline is not the most pleasant of experiences, due its salty taste. Although after repeated use the distinctly irritating taste begins to fade. The saline looses any secretions thus increasing the productivity of the treatment.
